Cut Tire Ends Mueller's Indy Race Early

Vancouver, British Columbia, July 24, 2004 - It was not the finish Richmond, B.C. native Glenn Mueller was looking for on Saturday when he stepped in his Green Line Hose and Fittings Dodge CASCAR at the Vancouver Molson Indy street course.

Mueller started the race in the 16th spot of the twenty two-car field after a fuel pickup problem shortened his qualifying session Saturday morning. "We were about to come in for a set of sticker tires to set a quick time when the car stumbled coming around the south end of circuit."

Mueller was driving hard from the start of the race staying with the field and biding his time for top ten finish. Mueller made it as far as 11th place before brushing the wall and causing a tire to rub on the right rear of the 475-horse power Whitlock Motorsports prepared Dodge CASCAR.

"We tagged the wall coming on to the front straight on lap 22 and the car started to fill with smoke. I brought it in and the crew made the call to try to complete that lap as a full course caution was coming out."

Had Mueller completed the next lap, the team would have been able to change all four tires. "The tire came off the rim coming around turn nine and that sent me in the wall. It's too bad, we had a great car and I would have liked to have finished the race, but it wasn't meant to be", says Mueller.

The entire race airs August 19th on Sportsnet and later this year on SPEED Channel. The CASCAR Super Series is Canada's premier National Stock Car racing series campaigning twelve events across Canada, including three road course events two of which run at the Molson Indy Vancouver and the Molson Indy Toronto as support races to the CHAMP Car World Series.

Glenn Mueller to debut in Green Line Dodge at CASCAR Vancouver Indy

WYOMING, ON – July 19 04: Glenn Mueller is no stranger to the tight downtown street course that is the Molson Indy Vancouver. But this weekend will be the first time the Richmond BC native drives this 475 HP, 2850 pound CASCAR Super Series stock car, sponsored by Green Line Hose and Fittings. Dave Whitlock will join him for the first test session on Wednesday at Mission, BC.

Mueller started with calls to a few drivers in the East for information, and he ended up inking a deal with Whitlock Motorsports to supply the car.

"When Glenn first called, he was wanting to do all three Series road courses, but it ended up with just this one for this year" said Dave Whitlock, whose race company prepares cars for both his Avenue / NMT team and Mark Dilley’s NTN Bearings Dodge. "We’ve sent out a real nice Dodge for Glenn, and our shop foreman Joe Lapointe will join Glenn’s crew as car chief for the weekend."

Mueller has competed actively since 1997 as a senior driver in ASN, CACC, ICSCC and SCCA sanctioned events in the Pacific Northwest region. He has also participated in several pro events including the 1999 Pro SCCA Speedvision Touring Car Series as well as the Molson Indy Vancouver Sports Car Club invitational events in 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2003. Additional racing experience includes instructing for the ProFormance Race Drivers School as Chief Instructor.

After the Molson Indy Toronto last week, things have heated up at the top of the CASCAR Super Series points battle as the Teams travel west and into the second half of the season. Dave Whitlock had a solid run in his #39 Avenue / NMT Dodge at Toronto Indy, slipping into third just three points behind Don Thomson Jr., but only 23 points behind leader Peter Gibbons. Just 37 behind Dave in 4th is Jeff Lapcevich, who just happens to have won all four most recent road course events. Kerry Micks is 5th, back only 10 more points. Mark Dilley’s fine 5th place finish at Toronto has his #64 NTN Bearings Dodge in 6th, just 83 points behind Whitlock.
