Tough outing for Dilley at
Peterborough Speedway
Exide Dodge Charger driver fought handling trouble
throughout
PETERBOROUGH, ON – Mark Dilley would just as soon forget Sunday
afternoon’s CASCAR Super Series race at Peterborough Speedway. The Exide /
Dodge / PowerWater / Mobil 1 / Dodge Charger driver finished 21st in the
200-lap feature race after battling handling troubles throughout the first
half of the race.
Things got
tougher just past the halfway point of the feature when the #9 Dodge hit
oil and spun out in turn 3, leading to heavy contact with the outside
retaining wall. The Whitlock Motorsports crew went to work repairing the
damage and eventually returned Dilley to the track. In the end, the
bright-red Charger completed 153 laps.
The Barrie,
ON resident qualified eighth-fastest for the race, which was originally
scheduled for Saturday night at Peterborough. The weatherman had another
plan for the schedule and the feature was bumped to Sunday afternoon.
Once the
green flag flew to start the race, the Exide Dodge Charger stayed within
the top 10. All the while, however, Dilley was fighting hard just to keep
the car on the racing groove. He lost that fight at lap 110 when he hit a
slick patch, sending him into the wall.
“We’re not
sure what happened with the car yet, but we suspect that something broke,”
said Dilley, after the race. “I tried to stay competitive, but we
eventually spun and that caused a lot of damage when it backed into the
fence. After that, we just tried to get in as many laps as we could.”

The result
was especially frustrating, given that Dilley has a long history of
success at Peterborough. “It does make it tough, but you do what you can
to soldier on. I really look forward to coming to Peterborough so it’s
disappointing not to do well here… we should be good here. It was just a
long weekend and we missed the setup.”
LOOKING AHEAD:
The next
CASCAR Super Series race is on the Labour Day weekend at Delaware
Speedway, near London. “We love racing at Delaware and we’re turning our
attention toward bouncing back from this race with a good result there,”
continued Dilley. “There are three races left on the schedule for the
Dodge / PowerWater / Mobil 1 / Exide / Dodge Charger team in 2005 and
we’re going to try to win some more races before the season’s done.

Dilley’s Whitlock Motorsports teammate Dave Whitlock earned the final
