WHITLOCK SEVENTH IN FINAL
CASCAR EVENT
Monday September 18, 2006,
Peterborough, ON: Dave Whitlock driver of the #39
NTN-Bower/Griddly Headz/Nitrex Metal Technologies
Dodge Charger finished seventh in what was to be
CASCAR's (Canadian Association of Stock Car Auto
Racing) last sanctioned event. In exciting news last
Tuesday, NASCAR and Canadian Tire announced that
they will partner in a new series in 2007 which will
be named the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.
Qualifying had D. J. Kennington
driver of the #17 Castrol Dodge taking the pole
position, with Whitlock posting the 6th quickest
time overall and team mate Mark Dilley starting 3rd.
Early on in the Dodge Dealers of Ontario Dodge
Charger 250 presented by Mopar, Whitlock would run
as high as third until they pitted on lap one
hundred. "We thought we were good to go," stated
Whitlock. "We got the caution when we needed it and
we pitted for tires, fuel and an adjustment and my
team made a fantastic stop and got us out first, so
we hoped we would be good to go until the end."
Another pit stop on lap one-seventy-one for another
right rear tire and adjustment didn't pan out and
the #39 Dodge Charger driver held on during the
final seventy five laps to take seventh. "The NTN/Griddly
Headz Charger started off just a bit loose," said
Whitlock after the race. "When we made our pit stop
we made some adjustments to tighten it up but we
went a bit to far, came in an adjusted again but
over the final hundred laps it was a handful. On a
positive note though I have to thank my team, as
they got me out of the pits first on both of our pit
stops - awesome job by all of them."
Teammate Mark Dilley in the Dodge
sponsored Charger, took his first checkered flag of
the season giving Mopar two of the three podium
finishers again this week. In light of the great
efforts by all the Mopar teams, they have for the
second year in a row won the Manufacturers Cup.
Congratulations to Mopar and everyone involved in
making this another stellar year for Dodge & Mopar.
Going into this event, Whitlock
was in 4th in CASCAR National points hoping to catch
the 2005 National Champion Don Thomson Jr. to
capture the third place position but it was not to
be and Whitlock unofficially finishes fourth one
point ahead of teammate Mark Dilley who finished
fifth. Congratulations also to Fitzpatrick
Motorsports as youngster J. R. Fitzpatrick won his
first championship here in CASCAR but it is sure to
be just one of many more championships along the way
for him. With capturing this championship J. R. was
able to knock five time Champion and teammate Don
Thomson Jr. off the throne into second place. Third
place in the standings went to the #02 of Kerry
Micks.
The Hot Head Henry powered by
Griddly Headz from Cayuga Speedway will be
re-broadcast on Sportsnet - East Thursday Sept. 21st
@ 2:00 p.m., Ontario Tuesday Sept. 19th @ 2:00 p.m
or Friday Sept. 22nd @ 2:00 p.m., West Monday Sept.
18th @ 2:00 p.m. and Pacific Wednesday Sept. 20th
@1:00 p.m.
Next up for Whitlock Motorsports
is the Racing With James Turner Charity Golf
Tournament, this Tuesday Sept. 19th at National
Pines just outside of Barrie. This is the 7th year
for this event that has raised almost $200,000.00
for several charities including Rick Hansen Man in
Motion, Canadian Diabetes Association, Leukemia
Foundation and this year some of the funds will go
to a CASCAR family member, granddaughter of Ron
Beauchamp Sr. - Emily Beauchamp who is two years old
and suffers from Spina Bifida. A number of CASCAR
race cars including teammates Dilley & Whitlock's
race cars will be on display on the golf course and
a great day is always had by all who attend.
Whitlock Motorsports would like
to take this opportunity to thank all their
sponsors, supporters and fans for this great 2006
season and we look forward to great things in 2007
in the new NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. We would
also like to thank Tony & Linda Novotny for bringing
us the CASCAR Super Series and giving us the
opportunity to move forward next year into the new
series with NASCAR.
