WHITLOCK FIRST DNF OF THE
YEAR
Wyoming, ON, Monday Sept. 11,
2006: Dave Whitlock driving the #39 NTN-Bower/Griddly
Headz/Nitrex Metal Technologies Dodge Charger wound
up completing only 157 laps of the St. Eustache 200
on Saturday night due to an engine failure. "This is
our first dnf of the season," stated a disappointed
Whitlock after the race. "We had completed every lap
in the first ten events this year and hoped to
finish up the year by completing them all."
Whitlock practiced in the top
five all day and when time trials were complete he
was fifth quickest overall. The #39 Dodge Charger
driver was reasonably satisfied with the car and
would line up for the 200 lap main event in fifth,
with the #02 of Kerry Micks taking the pole
position.
Upon the drop of the green flag,
Whitlock quickly moved up into third. On lap forty,
Whitlock accidentally bumped second place runner Don
Thomson Jr. When he slowed up to let him get
straightened out, which is the accepted procedure
with most CASCAR drivers, Ron Beauchamp Jr and D. J.
Kennington scooped him up the inside. The car was
getting loser by the lap and when the caution came
out on lap eighty-four the team took advantage of
the opportunity and pitted for tires and fuel.
Whitlock lined up for the restart in eleventh. He
climbed back up to as high as sixth but on lap 157
with the #19 of Brad Graham dropping front
suspension parts on the track in front of him, the
#39 Dodge Charge lost the motor. "We are very
disappointed tonight, but we will come back strong
at Kawartha and see where the cards fall in the
championship hunt." said Whitlock. "On a positive
note though, for the second race in a row it was an
all Dodge podium which bodes well for them winning
the Manufacturers Cup."
Finish 1. #60 Ron Beauchamp Jr.
2. #17 D.J. Kennington 3. #9 Mark Dilley 4. #1 Peter
Gibbons 5. #3 Jason Hathaway 15. #39 Dave Whitlock
