FIFTH PLACE FINISH FOR WHITLOCK NTN/NMT
DODGE
Monday June 19, 2006, Bowmanville, ON: Sunday's
running of the Clarington 200 presented by Canadian Shield Anti Crime
Response Corporation was a satisfying day for the NTN-Bower/Nitrex Metal
Technologies team of Dave Whitlock. A fourth place finish looked to be
in the cards but a last lap pass by Jim Lapcevich saw the #39 Dodge
Charger team cross the finish line in fifth position.
Saturday's qualifying saw Whitlock post the eighth
quickest time in his session but the earlier qualifying round had the
#60 Mopar team of Ron Beauchamp notch a quicker time pushing the NTN/NMT
Dodge driver back to the ninth on the starting grid for Sunday's
Father's Day event.
At the start of the 200 km, 51 lap race, Whitlock
settled in and ran consistent laps just inside the top ten. Pit stops
for all the competitors started around lap 18 but crew chief Warren
Jones left him on the track. As the rest of the field cycled through,
Whitlock moved into the lead, earning valuable bonus points. The caution
flag flew the next lap and they were able to duck into the pits for
tires and fuel and return to the track again in tenth. This pit strategy
proved to be sound as Whitlock was able to move up five positions over
the final twenty laps for a fifth place finish.
"The car was good all day long," stated driver Dave
Whitlock. "We just tried to post consistent times and stay out of
trouble which we managed to do. Mosport is a challenging track but
overall it was a good run for us on a road course."
Three time National Champion Dave Whitlock currently
resides unofficially in sixth in the CASCAR Super Series Point
standings. The #39 NTN-Bower/NMT Dodge team now looks forward to event
#3 at Barrie Speedway on the Canada Day long weekend, with events
planned starting Friday June 30th and running until Sunday July 2nd.
Watch for a full schedule of events to follow.
The Clarington 200 presented by Canadian Shield Anti
Crime Response Corporation will be televised on Sportsnet Sunday June
25th at 2 p.m EST. Check local listings for further details.
