WHITLOCK LEADS LAPS AND
FINISHES ELEVENTH IN SUBWAY 200
Hamilton, ON : No. 39 Dickies/Hamilton Tiger
Cats/NMT Dodge Charger driver Dave Whitlock led laps
during the the second half of Saturday nights Subway
200 at Cayuga Speedway but settled for an eleventh
place finish at the end.
Whitlock who has been bit by racing gremlins of
all sorts this year changed a motor prior to the
second practice session on Saturday afternoon. After
qualifying seventeenth the team had a discussion and
decided that they needed to change the carburetor
prior to the 200 lap main event. According to NASCAR
rules, in an impound race event if you make any
changes to your car after qualifying you are
relegated to start in last place.
After the warm up laps, Whitlock dropped the No.
39 Dodge back to the tail end of the field for the
start, and it appears the carburetor change was the
right move as by lap forty he had moved into twelfth
and was looking at the top ten. Just before the half
way point Whitlock brought the car to the attention
of his crew who made major adjustments as well as
two tires and fuel.
The Dickies Dodge Charger lined up on the grid in
tenth for the re-start. He would then start his
march to the front where on lap 130 he took the
lead. After a short stint at the front, the cars
handling started to go away and it continued to get
worse as the race progressed and an eleventh place
finish was the result.
