DILLEY’S DAY
ENDS EARLY IN DICKIES 200
Bowmanville, ON, Monday June 16, 2008: A broken clutch would see an early
end to Mark Dilley’s day in the Father’s Day running of the Dickies 200
at Mosport International Raceway.
During practice session on Saturday, Dilley would lead the field with
the quickest overall time in his No. 9 Dodge/Maple Lodge Farms/Leland
Industries Avenger and then back it up with a sixth place qualifying
effort for the Dickies 200 on Sunday afternoon. “The car was a little
tight during qualifying,” stated Dilley. “I wasn’t worried about
starting sixth as I knew we had a good car.”
At the drop of the green Dilley immediately passed the fifth place
car and was making the move on Peter Gibbons when all of a sudden the
car lost power. Evasive action was taken with the field coming hard
behind them Dilley had to get off the track and out of the way causing
more damage to the front of the racecar. “The car was a rocket-ship,”
exclaimed Dilley. “I blew by Ranger and was up beside Gibbons and that
was it.”
Scott Steckly in his Dodge Avenger set a track record in qualifying
in top spot with a time of 85.375 seconds.
Finish: 1st. No. 84 J. R. Fitzpatrick 2nd. No. 17 D. J. Kennington
3rd. No. 4 Don Thomson Jr. 4th. No. 22 Scott Steckly 5th. No. 7 Alex
Tagliani

Rain added a new element to the event with ten laps to go and most
teams ducked onto pit road to take on rain tires – all but race leader
Gibbons who ended up finishing in 9th after leading the most laps on the
day.
Next up for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series teams is the Barrie
Speedway event on Saturday June 28th. This quarter mile bullring is
known for tight racing and hot tempers. For more information on the
