WHITLOCK TENTH IN EDMONTON

Edmonton, AB, Monday July 28, 2008:  Dave Whitlock driving the No. 39 Dickies/NMT/PCRFC Dodge Avenger moved up twelve positions from twenty second to tenth in the Edmonton NASCAR Canadian Tire Series 100 on Saturday.

Whitlock’s Dickies Dodge Avenger was tenth quickest after Friday’s practice session and they went on to post the thirteenth quickest time in qualifying later in the afternoon.

“We made a few changes after practice in the morning and were confident that we would be solid in qualifying but a clutch problem kept us from getting a better lap time,” stated Whitlock after qualifying.

NASCAR mandates that if you remove a part that is sealed after qualifying you must move to the rear of the starting field for the race.  As the transmission is a sealed unit that had to be removed to replace the clutch the Dickies Avenger was forced to the back of the 22 car field.

“We have done a lot of research on clutches this year as there have been failures among the teams due to the new transmissions we are using,” stated Whitlock.  “We thought we had found the right combination but it is back to the drawing board.”

While Whitlock was shown in the thirteenth starting position for the Edmonton NASCAR Canadian Tire Series 100, he ultimately dropped back before the drop of the green flag to start twenty second.  Three caution periods during the race helped them to continue to move to up and come back to finish tenth.

“We knew we brought a good car here as our motors have been performing strong on the road courses,” stated Whitlock after the race.

“Moving up twelve positions here was a huge feat for this team as on these long road courses the field gets spread out so far that it can be very hard to overtake a car and there are limited passing zones.”

Alex Tagliani won his first NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event in only eight starts with Scott Steckly continuing his hot streak finishing second and 2007 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Champion Andrew Ranger finishing third.

The No. 39 Dickies Dodge Avenger team now prepare for the trip to Montreal for the Napa 100 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as support to the NASCAR Nationwide event on Friday & Saturday August 1st  & 2nd.

Dave qualified the Dickies/NMT/Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada Dodge Avenger in sixteenth.  After pitting a couple of times for adjustments during the early part of the A & W 300 they felt the car was coming to them as night and darkness descended.

They pitted or tires and fuel around the midpoint of the 300 lap event and shortly after the restart a lapped car decided to use the No 39 Dickies Avenger as the brakes running over the front wheel and doing damage to the ball joint and tie rod end.

The crew went to work and made quick work of repairs only losing eight laps.  With the high attrition rate and the car working as good as it was they were able to fight back to a ninth place finish.
