DILLEY RUNS UP
FRONT EARLY IN TROIS RIVIERES
Trois Rivieres, Quebec, Monday August 18, 2008: Driving the No. 9
Dodge Avenger, Mark Dilley was aiming for a top three finish on the
final road course event of the 2008 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series
season at the Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres, but a part failure ended
his day early on Sunday.
Dilley was really happy with his car after practice and
qualifying at this 10 turn 1.53 mile street course circuit. "I think
we have a car that can challenge for a top three finish," said
Dilley after qualifying in the sixth position in Saturday's timed
qualifying session.
It didn't take long for the No. 9 Dodge Avenger driver to move up
into the top five in Sunday's 100 km event. On lap 13 an opportunity
presented itself and he moved past the 22 of Steckly and the 7 of
Tagliani to move into third position. After later dropping back to
fourth, Dilley was black flagged on lap 26 of the 42 lap event and
sent to the pits. "I dropped back behind Tagliani and was running in
fourth just staying close but driving the car easy when a rear gear
started going," said Dilley. "I know we could have been right up
there at the end as we ran ahead of Ranger all day. It's really
tough when a part breaks, it's stuff you just don't have any control
over."
Andrew Ranger won the event in front of his home province fans
with Steckly second, Jason Hathaway third, D. J. Kennington fourth
and J. R. Fitzpatrick fifth. Mark Dilley was officially scored in
20th.
