The first 100 laps of the race ran relatively caution free but when the yellow flag flew at lap 109 everyone ducked onto pit road for tires and fuel. Whitlock brought his No. 39 Dickies Dodge into the pits from the seventh position after having moved up four from the start. A lightning quick stop by his team sent him back out in fourth. The next caution would come out a few laps later for current points leader Scott Steckly who had led all 125 laps until his motor expired, handing over the lead to Whitlock teammate Mark Dilley.

During a series of caution flags over the next forty laps Whitlock was able to move by two more competitors and was running second to teammate Dilley until the late race bump which sent the No. 39 Dickies Dodge spinning. After the ensuing caution, Whitlock would line up at the tail end of the lead lap in eleventh. With only fifteen laps to go Whitlock was able to fight back to another top ten finish. "Our car performed today the way we know it can and we were aiming for a podium finish," said Whitlock, "maybe even a 1-2 Whitlock teammate finish. Just to bad for all our sponsors and guests who were in attendance cheering us on today but we showed what we care capable of.”
