WHITLOCK THIRTEENTH IN EDMONTONEdmonton, AB (Sunday July 26, 2009): Dave Whitlock
started in sixteenth place in his No. 39 Dickies/NMT/Prostate
Cancer/POINTTS Dodge Avenger and finished the Canadian
Tire 100 in thirteenth.
The Whitlock Motorsports team were unhappy with their
qualifying effort of sixteenth so they had a meeting to
discuss what was needed to get the car better for the
race on Saturday. The team then headed to the track
early on Saturday morning to make some changes for
Whitlock before the late morning race.
The 10 turn, 1.973-mile temporary road course is
challenging and the cars can get spread out over the
duration of the 32 lap race. A mid race caution during
the 32 lap, 100 km event helped to close up the field
and Whitlock made his moves and was up to 10th when a
late race caution resulted in a green, white checkered
finish. The cars were all lined up nose to tail and
Whitlock got boxed in by several other cars and was
shuffled back to 13th. “We were aiming for a top ten
finish today and I thought we had it until that last
caution came out. On the last lap I was trying to make a
pass on the 40 car to move up to ninth, but I got into
the hairpin corner too deep, the car slid sideways and I
gave up three positions. Obviously, not the result we
were looking for, but we completed all the laps, and the
car and motor are still in one piece. We can work on it
and improve for our next street race at Trois Rivieres.”
said Whitlock.
