WHITLOCK RACES LAST ROAD COURSE
EVENT OF HIS CAREER IN MONTREAL
MONTREAL, QC, (Monday August 31, 2009): Dave Whitlock
entered the weekend at Montreal with mixed feelings. He
announced his retirement at the end of the 2009 season
so this would be the final road course outing of his
career. Whitlock was hoping for a top ten day but a
broken part dashed those hopes and at the end of the day
the No. 39 Dickies/NMT Dodge Avenger was scored in 26th
position.

Whitlock’s qualifying session was very promising and
everyone was confident about a good race day on Sunday
as he posted the 16th quickest time. Road course
qualifying is accomplished by half of the thirty four
cars in attendance on the track at one time taking laps.
Each lap Whitlock ran during qualifying was quicker than
the last and each lap he also had to pass at least one
car. The ideal in road course qualifying is to get a
“clean” lap where you have no cars to pass and no
obstacles which the No. 39 Dickies driver did not get.

Sunday’s Napa 100 started just before noon and the
grandstands were packed with fans cheering them on. In
the first five laps there were two caution periods and
it was on the second restart that Whitlock’s car just
didn’t go. “It’s clutch or rear end,” said a very
frustrated and disappointed Whitlock over the radio to
his crew. Not to be daunted the team quickly went to
work and fixed the broken piece and got Whitlock back on
track. Unfortunately with the laps winding down he was
only able to make up a few positions and 26th was the
result. “This is not the way I wanted my last road
course to go,” commented Whitlock after the race. “I was
very comfortable in the car for practice and the early
going in the race and thought we had a good shot at a
top ten finish today. Our road course results have been
very disappointing this year. We have had a decent car
and unfortunately mechanical failures have taken us out
of 3 events. My crew did an incredible job today, to get
us back on the track. I would like to thank all my
sponsors, for their continued support!”
Finish 1. J.R. Fitzpatrick 2. Andrew Ranger 3. Kerry
Micks 4. D. J. Kennington 5. Mark Dilley 26. Dave
Whitlock.
The Napa 100 will be broadcast on TSN on Saturday
Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. EST.
Next up for Whitlock Motorsports is the Torbram
Electric 300 presented by The Source at Barrie Speedway.
Whitlock last appearance at this 1/3 mile bullring last
year had him barrel rolling down the front straight away
only to land on his roof. The No. 39 driver was running
in the top five at the time so they look forward to this
event. For more information on tickets, schedule,
